Note: There is no industry standard for
Unions. The various brands have their own
unique style, which means you must use the unions provided
with the spa pump. This will most likely involve cutting off your old unions
and installing the new ones shipped with the spa pump. This is why we
include the nipples and couplers. To make adaptation easy.
(Hardware stores do not sell these PVC couplers). If your heater is
directly coupled to the spa wet end, then our pump will probably not work
as the union will most likely be different.

1.5" and 2" refers to
the size of your PVC supply plumbing lines. It has nothing to do with the size of
the union nuts or the size of the threads on the wet end.
Do not determine the size by the inside or outside dimensions of
the spa pump head inlets/outlets. You must measure the PVC supply lines.
The PVC pipe slides into the union and is glued with PVC cement.
1.5" plumbing means you
have 1.5" schedule 40 PVC supply lines (1.5" I.D.; 1 7/8" O.D. on the line)
circumference = 6.5" (wrap a tape measure around the pipe)
" plumbing means you have 2" schedule 40 PVC supply lines (2"
I.D.; 2 3/8" OD on
the line).
circumference = 8"
(wrap a tape measure around the pipe)
Note: Some lines are hard PVC and some are flexible lines, but have the
same size O.D. |
Be sure to look at the
motor voltage, not the voltage supplied to the spa to determine the
correct pump voltage.
These are full size pumps and motors - Not the smaller circulating pumps -
Take a look at our Tiny Might Pumps for these.
When removing power cord from existing pump we recommend you mark your
wires for "common", "High speed", "low speed". The connection diagram for
the new pump is located on the motor name plate.
If you are unsure as to whether the pump will work
for you, call us and we can discuss it with you. |
The wet ends can be
rotated by simply loosening the motor thru bolts and turning the pump
head, allowing the discharge to point to
3 O'clock, 9 O'clock or 6 O'clock. If you tell us we can do it for you. We
determine direction by looking at the face of the pump. |
FAQ: Can I change my spa pump to a larger horsepower pump?
Answer: Yes, most cartridge filters have a bypass valve, so that the
increased water flow will simply bypass the filter and flow through the
lines into the hot tub. The water will still be filtered when the spa pump is in
low speed speed mode.
FAQ: Can the pump head be rotated?
Answer: Yes by loosening the (4) motor thru bolts, the pump head can be
rotated to any position. Then you would simply re-install the thru bolts.
